What is a personal crypto IBAN?

A personal crypto IBAN is a bank account number issued in your own name and linked to your self-custodial wallet instead of a regular bank account.

When a bank transfer is sent to it, funds are automatically converted into the crypto of your choice on one of the 16 chains we support. When you need to pay something, it sends a bank transfer from the same IBAN but funded with crypto from any of your wallets.

No crypto knowledge required from anyone else: your employer sees an ordinary bank transfer to your name, your landlord and your insurer see an ordinary bank transfer from your name. Meanwhile your money never sits in a bank: it stays on chain in a wallet that only you control.

How your personal IBAN works

When you create your personal IBAN, you make the following choices to set up where incoming money goes by default:

The blockchain

The default network on which your IBAN receives funds. You can choose any of the 16 networks that we support.

The cryptocurrency

The default crypto that incoming transfers are converted into. Any of the 30+ cryptocurrencies we support are available.

The receiving address

The default wallet address where the crypto is delivered. It can be any self-custodial wallet: Bridge Wallet, Ledger, MetaMask, etc.

💡 You are not limited by these default settings

The choices you make above only define what happens without further instructions. You can still have funds sent to your IBAN be converted into other cryptocurrencies by using a reference in the transfer, and you can fund outgoing bank transfers using any crypto from any chain we support.

How to get a personal crypto IBAN

1. Verify your identity

Create your account on app.mtpelerin.com or in our mobile app, then verify your identity.

2. Verify your wallet

Only applies if you use a wallet other than Bridge Wallet: go to app.mtpelerin.com in the "Addresses" tab, click "Add a wallet" and follow instructions.

3. Create your IBAN

Go to app.mtpelerin.com in the "IBAN" tab, or tap "Get your own IBAN" on the main screen of our app, and follow instructions to create your IBAN.

4. Use your IBAN

That's it, once created you will receive a confirmation email with your IBAN details and you will be able to start using it right away!

What you can do with it

Receive bank transfers as crypto

Your personal IBAN receives bank transfers directly as crypto in your wallet, from your own bank accounts or, in certain cases, from third parties such as your employer, your insurer or a tax administration.

Share it with your employer to get your salary in crypto, with no consequence for you or for them. Whoever pays you only ever sees an ordinary bank transfer to your name.

Send bank transfers to anyone

With your IBAN you can send bank transfers funded with cryptocurrencies from your wallet, and the recipient simply sees a bank transfer sent in your name.

That works for friends and family, and for all of your bills: rent, utilities, insurance, subscriptions, taxes and supplier invoices. Prefer to upload a bill rather than type its details? You can scan Swiss QR-bills from Bridge Wallet or via app.mtpelerin.com.

Usage and limits

There are no fixed limits as such. However, to comply with the regulatory framework, bank transfers to and from third parties may be subject to additional verifications and information requests.

Peer-to-peer transactions are intended to remain occasional and limited, and not to become regular or akin to a commercial activity. Third-party payments are subject to certain thresholds and may lead to regular requests for documented explanations. In the case of repeated flows with the same person or company, we may ask you for details about your relationship in order to continue using the service without restriction.

As Mt Pelerin is not a bank, the personal IBAN is offered as a payment and conversion tool between the banking world and cryptocurrencies, but not as a bank account intended for general banking use.

If you run a company, an association or a foundation, our crypto IBAN for business is the right tool: it is issued in the organization's own legal name and is made for commercial flows.

FAQ about personal IBANs

A personal crypto IBAN is a bank account number issued in your own name and linked to your self-custodial crypto wallet instead of a bank account. When anyone sends a bank transfer to it, the amount is automatically converted into the cryptocurrency you chose and delivered to your own wallet on any of 16 supported blockchains. You can also use the same IBAN to send bank transfers and pay your rent, bills, invoices or taxes, funded with crypto from your wallet. The people on the other side simply see an ordinary bank transfer in your name, and your money never sits in a bank.

Any individual can request a personal crypto IBAN with us after verifying their identity, as long as they are not in our list of excluded countries. We cannot accept as clients US and Russian persons, nor residents of Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mainland China (Hong Kong and Taiwan accepted), Mali, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Niger, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

Yes. You must successfully verify your identity with us before obtaining a personal IBAN. Verification takes place in our web interface at app.mtpelerin.com or in our mobile app Bridge Wallet, and it is the only step that stands between you and your IBAN.

If you are a new user and already have a crypto wallet, go to app.mtpelerin.com to register, verify your identity and request your IBAN. If you do not have a wallet yet, download our mobile app Bridge Wallet, create a wallet, then verify your identity and request your IBAN. If you are already registered but not yet verified, verify your identity first from your user profile. If you are already a verified user, go to app.mtpelerin.com in the IBAN tab, or simply open the Bridge Wallet app and tap the "Get your own IBAN" button on the main screen.

Creating a personal crypto IBAN is free and there is no monthly or maintenance fee. Our only fee is a commission on each currency conversion made through the IBAN, based on your annual exchange volume: 0% up to CHF 500, 1.3% from CHF 501 to CHF 5,000, 1.1% from CHF 5,001 to CHF 50,000, 0.9% from CHF 50,001 to CHF 1,000,000, 0.7% from CHF 1,000,001 to CHF 10,000,000 and 0.6% above CHF 10,000,000. Conversions between fiat currencies and the ZCHF or fxUSD stablecoins are free of exchange fees. If you hold MPS tokens, our tokenized shares, you get free exchange up to CHF 50,000 of volume per year. See our pricing page for more detail.

Yes. Share your personal IBAN with your employer and your salary arrives automatically converted into the cryptocurrency of your choice, directly in your own wallet. Your employer sends the same standard bank transfer as always, so no wallet, no crypto knowledge and no new process is needed on their side, and the arrangement has no specific legal or tax consequence for them. You remain responsible for declaring your crypto assets under the rules of your country of residence.

Yes. Any obligation that can be settled by bank transfer can be paid from your personal IBAN using cryptocurrency from your wallet: rent, utilities, insurance premiums, subscriptions, taxes, supplier invoices, and transfers to friends and family. You can add a reference to the bank transfer so the recipient can reconcile the payment, exactly like a regular transfer. Recipients receive a standard bank transfer in your name and need no knowledge of cryptocurrency.

Today we offer personal IBANs in CHF. The currency determines the currency in which the IBAN sends and receives bank transfers, so a CHF IBAN accepts local Swiss transfers through SIC. The cryptocurrency you receive is a separate choice, and it can be any of the 30+ cryptocurrencies we support.

You can have two personal IBANs. Each one has its own default cryptocurrency, blockchain and receiving wallet address. These defaults can be overridden on a per-transaction basis by including a reference in the incoming bank transfer, so a single IBAN can receive different cryptocurrencies on different chains and different addresses.

Any self-custodial wallet can be used with the IBAN, including Bridge Wallet, Ledger, Trezor, BlueWallet, MetaMask, Rabby and more. To use an external wallet, connect and verify it on app.mtpelerin.com in the Addresses tab, then select its address in the receiving address dropdown when creating the IBAN. Incoming funds can be delivered on any of the 16 blockchains we support.

No. Mt Pelerin is a non-custodial service and never holds your funds. Incoming transfers are converted and delivered straight to your own wallet address, and outgoing transfers are funded by crypto you send from your own wallets. We act solely as an exchange intermediary between the banking system and your self-custodial wallets, so there is no account balance of yours sitting with us.

A personal crypto IBAN is not a bank account, so the IBAN itself does not have to be declared as one. You remain responsible for declaring your crypto assets in accordance with the regulations that apply in your country of residence. Mt Pelerin is not a bank: the personal IBAN is a payment and conversion tool between the banking world and cryptocurrencies, not a general purpose banking account.

There are no fixed limits as such. To comply with the regulatory framework, bank transfers to and from third parties may be subject to additional verifications and information requests. Peer-to-peer transactions are intended to stay occasional and not to become regular or akin to a commercial activity. Third-party payments are subject to certain thresholds and may lead to regular requests for documented explanations, and in the case of repeated flows with the same person or company we may ask you for details about your relationship so you can keep using the service without restriction.

Yes. The cryptocurrency, blockchain and receiving address you pick when creating the IBAN are only the defaults, used when the incoming bank transfer carries no further instruction. By including a reference in the transfer, the same IBAN can deliver another cryptocurrency, on another chain, to another of your verified wallet addresses. Outgoing bank transfers are not limited by the defaults either: you can fund them with any supported crypto from any supported chain and any of your wallets.

Yes. To pay a Swiss QR-bill with your personal IBAN on app.mtpelerin.com, go in the "IBAN" tab, click on "Send" and at the bottom of the screen click on "Pay an invoice". You will then have various options to provide your Swiss QR-bill and pay it. In Bridge Wallet, simply select the crypto that you want to use, tap "Send" and tap on the QR code icon to scan your QR-bill.

No. The personal IBAN is for your own payments, and third-party flows on it are meant to stay occasional rather than commercial. If you run a company, an association or a foundation, our crypto IBAN for business gives you an IBAN in the organization's own legal name, so clients can settle invoices to it and the organization can pay salaries, suppliers, rent and taxes from its own wallet.

Yes. A verified account gives access to the full service: buying and cashing out crypto in 18 fiat currencies, swapping between 30+ cryptocurrencies and bridging across 16 blockchains, all delivered to and from your own wallet. For large amounts, our OTC desk handles high-value purchases and cash-outs with dedicated support.

The personal crypto IBAN is available to all except US and Russian persons, as well as residents of Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mainland China (Hong Kong and Taiwan accepted), Mali, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Niger, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Yemen and Zimbabwe.
